The Rotary Club of Gwinnett County will host the 4th Annual Derby Down South Fundraiser to support local charities in Gwinnett County. The Derby Down South fundraiser will bring together Rotarians in the spirit of fellowship while supporting a worthy cause! Enjoy mint juleps, contests, and a chance to win great prizes! You will also get to see the Derby race on the big screen at Formetco! This year we have selected the following four charities who are making a big impact in Gwinnett:
100 Black Men of North Metro Atlanta Bridging the gap in academic achievement, further widened by the pandemic for young men of color. Engaging middle and high school young men in our award-winning Men of Tomorrow program. Mentees achieve their full potential with an emphasis on academic excellence and overcoming key obstacles to success in their personal and social lives. Technology support is also provided to ensure mentee success outside of the classroom. Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Center for Art and Learning The smART (Scholastics, Maturity, Awareness, Responsibility, Trust) Honors Program is a community arts initiative of The Hudgens Center with a goal of making measurable, positive differences in the lives of Gwinnett County high school students through intensive art education and critical thinking skills. The nine-month program provides professional mentorship and hands-on experiences to underserved students who have have been identified by their high school educators to have an interest in and passion for the visual arts, while facing financial or emotional barriers to advance arts education resources through traditional avenues of paid instruction. The smART Honors group exhibition is an annual event at the conclusion of the program. Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains Gwinnett Building Babies Brains Bedtime Stories project expands awareness of the importance of early learning and literacy to ensure all Gwinnett’s children are ready to thrive in kindergarten. This project aims to put books in the hands and stories in the minds of our youngest learners. Heirborn Servants Through their Give Rides Initiative, Heirborn Servants serves other nonprofits and organizations who empower single moms who are survivors of addiction, domestic abuse, exploitation, homelessness, and trauma by providing safe and reliable transportation solutions. Access to reliable transportation provides the opportunity for meaningful employment, pursuing higher education, career certifications, regular healthcare management and other critical services that are necessary to attain and sustain self-sufficiency. International Efforts As The Rotary Club of Gwinnett County is also part of Rotary International, 10% of our net fundraising efforts this year will go towards Rotary International’s effort to eradicate Polio. |
